Netflix’s Lionheart, directed by and starring Genevieve Nnaji, will be entered for Oscars consideration for Best International Feature Film. It will be Nollywood’s first international feature that will receive such a distinction.
According to Screen Daily, the film will also be among the first submissions entered into the category under its new name. The category was formerly called Best Foreign Language Film.
Lionheart made its international debut in 2018 at TIFF. Nnaji stars as Adaeze, who takes over her father’s company amid a landscape full of male-dominated businesses. The film also stars Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu and Kalu Ikeagwu.
